GUATEMALA ORGANIC HUEHUETENANGO ASOBAGRI is sourced from one of the most sophisticated and well organized cooperatives in the world. The Asociacion Barillense de Agricultores – ASOBAGRI – is located in the municipalidad de Santa Cruz Barillas in the famed Huehuetenango region and serves 1400 members who cultivate and harvest their own coffee on small farms with their own micro-mills. The spectacularly rugged terrain has served to preserve the indigenous heritage where distinct clothing and dialects can vary from one mountain ridge to the next. Stratagies like using coffee pulp to make organic fertilizer reduces the transportation costs associated with purchasing fertilizer from afar and creates an abundant source of orgainic plant nutrition that ensures better yields and quality.
